 HEAD COACH:  LAURIE FLYNN

Welcome to the Hanover Area Family YMCA Stingrays!  As your head coach, I am looking forward to getting to know you and to a terrific season!  Coaching is so much fun.  I love my job! I am honored to work with the many talented and enthusiastic young people on our team.  I am a level II certified coach with USA Swimming, and a member of the American Swim Coaches Association, and Middle Atlantic Swimming.

I am originally from Pittsburgh, PA where I swam for the Baldwin High School Highlanders Swim Team, the Baldwin Whitehall Swim Club, and the South Park Aquatics Club.  I enjoyed participating in regional and state meets, as well as junior olympics. I was a school record holder in 1988, as well as receiving All American consideration. From there I moved on to attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania where I earned my BS in Education.  I swam freestyle and butterfly sprints for the Indians. I have enjoyed working in aquatics since 1986 as a Red Cross swimming instructor, waterfront director, and swim coach.  I am currently a United States Swimming, and YMCA certified swim coach, as well as a YMCA Swimming Official, and hold certifications in principles of swimming and diving, lifeguarding, CPR, First Aid, Oxygen Administration, and AED.

Some of my other experiences include teaching in public schools for eight years, directing chorus and band, and hosting/directing musical productions in Loudoun County, Virginia; Austin, Texas; and Pittsburgh, PA.  I have also enjoyed being the pianist, choir director, and minister of music at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, in Arlington, VA.   Coaching is the perfect way to combine my passion for teaching children, with my love of aquatics. Coaching for the YMCA is an ideal setting with its promotion of Christian values and good sportsmanship.

I live in Hanover with my husband Tim, and our three children.  Outside the pool, I also enjoy participating in church activities, reading (history and biographies are some favorites), riding (horses), and playing the piano. I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you this year, and working together to have a great season. Go Stingrays!

COACH TASHA CHRISTIE

Hello, my name is Tasha Christie and I am thrilled to be the new
assistant coach for such a wonderful group of swimmers.  To tell you
more about myself;  I have been a Hanover resident for about 4 1/2 years now.  I
am first and foremost a wife to my wonderful husband, Edward and a
loving mother of two, Mackenzie and Andrew.  I have been a stay at home mother for the
past 6 years and love it.

I am a graduate of McDaniel College (formerly Western Maryland
College), and majored in Political Science with a focus on  Constitutional Law.
During my college years I swam for the Green Terror swim team and
even served as the women's team captain for 2 years.  Upon graduation
I worked as a Store Manager in Towson, MD, yet that job was put on
hold after the death of my mentor , my father.  I moved home to live
with and help my mother cope.  In doing so, I also ensured that my
brother would return to college to finish his studies (which he did).  This event lead me
to get a job as a Legislative Aide in Annapolis , MD for the now Lt.
Gov. Anthony Brown.  Working as an aide surely has prepared me for so
many life lessons and helped me to see all sides of a situation
before acting upon.  I thank God for that experience to learn and grow.

As for my swimming background, I have been competetively swimming
since the age of 4.  My father was a swim coach for age group
swimming, High School Swimming and at the Collegiate level.  I have
learned patience, kindness and an unwillingness to back down from
him.  As far as coaching is concerned I hope to be even half the
coach and mentor to all ages he  was.  I look forward to working with
your young swimmers in helping them achieve their goals both in the
pool and in life.  Thank you for this opportunity.

Respectfully and Sincerely,
Tasha Christie
